Anyone looking to adopt a pup or a kitten? Save our Strays focuses solely on adoptions, sterilisation and providing first aid to stray cats and dogs. If you think you don’t have the time and energy needed to raise a pet, but still want to contribute, you can help Save Our Strays with adoptions, participate in day-to-day activities, or through donations (cash or kind — animal food, antibiotics, medicines, rabies vaccines, etc.
LBB Tip: You can sponsor an animal, too. All you've got to do is donate a sum of INR 1,500 per month, which will cover the cost of food, lodging, and medical expenses of an animal.

World For All is a shelter that has a huge following on Facebook and WhatsApp groups. Their presence on these channels helps them take care of stray puppies, dogs, kittens, and cats. Their focused programs revolve around animal adoption and rescues, spay and neuter, and spreading awareness about adoption and awareness.
How To Volunteer: They assign jobs to volunteers only when there’s a requirement. However, you can always help them with donations.

BSPCA, Parel
The Bombay Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals cares for animals’ basic needs and provides support to enhance their overall quality of life. They don’t ask much from their volunteers, only 12 hours of their time (per month). As a volunteer, you'll help with the care of animals in the hospital, be an essential part of the hospital team, help groom the animals, take photographs, etc. You also have the option of being a foster mom or dad to litters of puppies/kittens/birds. You can also sign up for dog walking on the weekends or weekdays.
How To Volunteer: If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with BSDPHA, you will be requested to visit the hospital to fill out their volunteer form and other necessary paperwork, hereafter familiarise yourself with the animal hospital activities.

In Defence Of Animals, Navi Mumbai
Since its inception, In Defense of Animals (IDA) has been actively involved with rescuing abused animals, providing shelter, campaigning to secure legal recognition of animals, and promoting the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program. They have segregated volunteers into several groups. You can help them get new recruitments, helping in rescues and raising donations, creating campaigns and content, and tending to the daily needs of the animals at their shelter. You can also opt to be a 'Guardian Angel' wherein you can sponsor a pet of your choice for INR 12,000 per year.

Welfare Of Stray Dogs (WSD), Mahalaxmi & Fort
This NGO has effortlessly dedicated itself to helping street dogs, eradicating rabies, and controlling the street dog population humanely and scientifically. If you're an animal lover, there's a lot you can do here. They have a dedicated Sunday first-aid program where the volunteers are trained to treat strays for minor skin diseases and injuries. Apart from that, volunteers can head to their kennel and walk the dogs, feed them, and even give them a shower.

LBB Tip: They've got a first-aid round every Sunday for animal lovers. The groups meet outside the Eros Theater in Churchgate at sharp 9:30 AM and head to different localities to treat stray animals with basic injuries and diseases.

Devoted to providing a better and safer life for the voiceless, All About Them is an animal recovery center that provides temporary shelter and care to animals till they are nurtured back to health. They are also involved in sterilising street animals. Volunteers are a big welcome here and play a crucial role at All About Them. Also, you can help them by donating something from their Amazon wishlist as they are always in need of food, medicines, and basic utilities for the rescued animals at their centre.

Animals Matters To Me was born with the objective to come up with humane and sustainable methods of managing strays and addressing their medical needs. Apart from their sterilisation programs, they're actively involved in animal adoptions, pet health care, foster care, and pick-up and drop-off of animals in critical conditions. That's just not it. They've got a whopping 17-acre sanctuary in Kolad, which is more like a cageless haven for the homeless animals. Expect gaushalas, catteries, dog homes, aquatic ponds, cattle ward, aviary, hospital, etc.
How To Volunteer: You can help by covering medical costs and post-op care for animal rescues, sponsoring vaccination shots, celebrating an occasion by sponsoring a meal for the inmates at the animal hospital, or at the animal sanctuary, or even contributing to help keep the facilities running. Or, simply pulling up as rehab volunteers who primarily socialise with puppies, cats, and dogs in addition to walking the dogs.

Started by a group of creative cat lovers back in 2017, The Feline Foundation in Versova is doing amazing work for the stray cat population in Mumbai. Right from sterilisation and community care to rescues and adoptions, this NGO does it all. They've even got a not-for-profit Community Vet Clinic that treats both pets and strays at super affordable rates. If you ever come across a stray cat in distress, you know whom to call.
How To Volunteer: You can sign up as a cat feeder, adopt a furball in need, or help take care of the feline patients by keeping their spaces tidy, making toys, or even just giving them cosy blankets. Every little bit counts.

Started in 2021, this Thane-based foundation may be young, but the impact they are trying to create is anything but small. Mypalclub is an NGO that focuses on medical care and rehabilitation of stray animals. They also give special attention to those who are otherwise neglected, geriatric, and ones with special needs. They're all about giving these animals a second shot at a happy, healthy life, whether it’s through street rescues, vet camps, or rehoming. They not only provide medical care when needed, but they also organise camps in one area at a time, so their services are accessible to all.
