Booking a room at Rajbari Bawali, a 300-year-old mansion, should be at the top of your list. You'll be welcomed with aarti and tikaa. The Rajbari has been restored and converted into a heritage hotel after years of meticulous restoration, during which every corner of the house was carefully layered to bring it back to life. For fantastic food, visit the Piano Room for classic Bengali-style cuisine — jhuri aloo bhaja, sona moong daal, gobhindobhog rice, bhetki paturi, ilish-er matha diye pui shaak and of course a mishti platter that has mishti doi, roshogolla, pantua, and chamcham. They have 50 rooms with old four-poster beds, a wooden chest and a small two-storey step to help you get into bed. For breakfast, you can go for the breakfast buffet at Lotus Pavilion. The fort lay in ruins after independence until it was restored and turned into a posh resort in the late 1990s. The hotel's finest feature is an almost life-sized chessboard! The Calcutta Bungalow has 6 rooms. Each room is named after a specific area of Kolkata, such as Patuapara, Sahibpara, Darzipara, and Boipara, among others. So the Muchipara room is decorated with equipment cobblers use to make shoes. The Darzipara room features antique sewing machines. Everyday things that you see on the streets, such as khorkhori janlas, the colourful nylon “bajarer tholi”, those irritating “chongas” that are blaring at every pujo pandal, have all been used as decorations all over the building. The Red Bari Stay
This Airbnb is housed inside a 1920s heritage home. Like the homes in the City of Joy that date back decades and even centuries, the exteriors are painted crimson. Layering the room with different textures of veneers, glass, metal, and fabric creates a soft demeanour. The top floor houses the Airbnb. Passionate about community development and organic farming, Avantika Jalan took action to prevent the destruction of this magnificent home. She intended to preserve its history while converting it into a location that could be used for both personal and professional purposes. So, when you visit Kolkata and want those postcard, Pinterest-worthy photographs of old Calcutta, you know where to stay.

LBB Tip: Request off-menu Bengali treasures, such as house-made hilsa specialities or slow-cooked mutton. The chefs enjoy showcasing historical and seasonal flavours.
Glenburn Penthouse
It is perched atop a stately old building, and as soon as you enter, you can feel the distinct silence of bygone Calcutta. Every one of the 9 suites has a private patio with views of the Maidan and Victoria Memorial when you stoop down. There is a rooftop infinity pool and a small, carefully picked library to immerse yourself in because Bengalis love to read and eat in equal measure. The cuisine is a beautiful jugalbandi of foreign flair and regional ingredients. They offer two types of rooms: the Executive Suite, featuring a comfortable double bed, and the King Suite, which boasts a Maharaja-style bed. Versailles parquet flooring, ornate marble inlay interiors, plaster of Paris mouldings and antique furniture scattering the scene – it's a lost world of glamour and opulence that you step into.
