Here Are The 20 Iconic North Kolkata Durga Pandals
Sovabazar Rajbari
Visiting Sovabazar Rajbari is a very Calcuttan thing to do during Durga Puja. The pujo at the rajbari is all about simplicity and traditions. The idol is set up in sabeki ek-chala style (traditional Durga idols placed on a single platform). You just can't miss the dhunuchi naach and the sindoor khela here. Raja Nabakrishna Deb built one more house on Raja Nabakrishna Street, which his biological son, Rajkrishna, inherited. The rajbari is called Choto Rajbari. It's a short walk from the main Rajbari.

Baghbazaar Sarbojanin
This iconic Pujo in Baghbazaar is in its 106th year. They create the same idol every year without any change in the design, colour or structure. The ekchala pratima (idol) and age-old puja rituals set it apart from others. The surroundings are a gastronomic paradise as well! So, don’t miss the chance to indulge in local delicacies while soaking up the festive vibe.

Kumartuli Park Sarbojanin Durgaotsab Committee
Ever wondered where artistic excellence and traditional craftsmanship in Durga idol-making truly shine? Kumartuli Park, running its 91st year, is the spot! Known for celebrating the talents of local potters, 'Patroshobha' is the theme this year. A Durga Puja that honours the beauty of leaves and the soft touch of green, painted in the hues of nature. The Goddess appears behind the shadows of leaves.

Hatibagan Sarbojanin Durgotsav
In its 91st year, Hatibagan Sarbojanin has unveiled its theme of 'Atho Ghat Kotha'. The concept primarily hinges around the time when the Ganga ghats were alive with addas, performances, wrestling matches, and festive gatherings. Time has nearly eradicated them today. Those lost tales come back to life in the pandal with this Puja.

'Probaho', which means 'flow' or 'frequency', is this year's theme. Another interesting fact about Ahiritola is that Job Charnock, the founder of Calcutta, an English administrator from the 17th century, first set foot in Ahiritola Ghat on the eastern bank of the Hooghly.

The pandal seamlessly blends technology and tradition, incorporating 3D printing, clay, LEDs, folk art, and even a touch of robotics. Maa Durga remains timeless; everything around her seems to be a collision of the past and the present. It asks whether AI actually benefits humanity or if it takes over. These 'Bonedi Barir' pujos honour the goddess and demonstrate how these families have carried on their traditions and cultures to this day. Since 1859, the Daws of Jorasanko have celebrated Durga Puja at their Thakurdalan. This puja was started at the Thakurdalan by the late Sri Narasingha Chandra Daw, and it is still observed by the current generations following the same customs, rites, and rituals.
