What Makes It Awesome

The Market at The Ritz-Carlton, Bangalore wasn't on our list of places we'd think of for dinner dates until we went for their all-new a la carte dinner menu preview. The all-day dining aspect of The Market paves the way for a dinner spot come 7 PM, and you have a truly global menu to pick from.

On our preview night, we had a curated menu to choose from that included cold plates, salads, appetisers, main courses, and desserts. With us was the General Manager, Reuben Kataria, and the Marketing Director, Nikita Mascarenhas, who walked us through the concept of how the idea is to move away from the buffet format and take advantage of the fact that The Market has such a good space that's suited for dinner arrangements. And of course, give guests the option of picking things that best play to the hotel's culinary strengths.

We agree because, while a buffet has its people, for dinner dates, we'd prefer made-to-order dishes and also not eat like there's no tomorrow. And when we say dinner dates, we don't mean just couples out on a romantic splurge, but girlfriends catch-ups that are long due or those business dinners where you want to close the deal.

The Food

We started off the night with the Tiger Prawn & Hass Avocado Aguachile. Aguachile is a Mexican carpaccio, and this one was refreshing, sharp, and textural. Then came the trio of Spicy Korean Chicken, Bosnian Cheese Pie, and Beetroot Bitterballen. The Market at this point was showing off its global flavours. Our pick for the night was the crispy, spicy chicken that we wanted more of. But the bitterballen did have us going back for one more — fried cheese is our weakness.

The menu traverses across the globe like a well-travelled person, so if you are coming with your family, friends, or even dates and have different palates, there's something for everyone — Mutton Mappas to Norwegian Salmon. Our main for the night was the Pistachio Crusted Norwegian Salmon, a hearty portion that's complemented by brown butter braised asparagus and crispy potatoes.

No dinner date is complete without dessert, and we recommend the Forest Floor Symphony that was served to us, which is a through-and-through dark chocolate-heavy dessert.

Final Thoughts

The menu works for those nights you want to indulge in, or have an out-of-town friend coming, and you need to have a fun night out.
