After months of Burger and Beer Residency at the Conservatory, Smash Guys have found a home on Indiranagar’s crowded, culinary lane of 12th Main. They aren’t here to displace or replace Bangalore’s cult burger joints, but join the ranks of the city’s best burger joints — at least that’s the vibe we got when we dropped by one Saturday evening for some burgers.

The Space

Built in a typical classic American diner-style with wooden accents and yellow tiles, booth seating, and communal tables—Smash Guys ticks all the checkboxes in what’s Reels-worthy these days. There’s a counter seating by the open, live-kitchen, and wine bar seating with high stools that add a bit of drama to your burger-busting session. We quite like the staff’s uniform — diner-coded, yellow, and very “wish we could wear them too”.

The Food

It’s a burger joint, to be specific, a smash burger joint. For those who might be wondering what a smash burger is, well, it’s where the burger patty is firmly pressed onto to the griddle for a crispy yet juicy thin patty. While they have a range of vegetarian burgers, we politely declined for a more carnivorous diet. The Nashville Chicken and Oklahoma Smash were ordered with a side of Strawberry Cheesecake Shake.

The Nashville is a spicy fried chicken burger with the fried chicken patty dipped in chilli oil and finished with chilli sofrito. The milk buns were soft and not one bit crumbly. In fact, the whole burger stayed intact as we went to town with it. And it was spicy as advertised. We had ordered the buff version of the Oklahoma, and they do have a lamb version as well, our plus one, who had been to the US a few months ago, was talking about how it was similar to the ones they had tried there.

We had planned on washing down all the flavour with the rich shake, but the staff insisted we try the boozy Old Monk Chocolate Mousse. We’re glad we did, but also, for someone who can’t handle chocolate, this is one hundred per cent a smash.

Final Thoughts

Definitely a place you’d go back for more, and plus, it has the makings of being spoken in the same breath as some of the OGs. You know which ones.
