After RR Nagar, Serious Slice comes to a more central Bangalore location at the 40-seater, tastefully done Cunningham location. We liked that on the few occasions we've dined here, they stayed true to their name. But, here's our serious take on Serious Slice.

The Space

"It's cute" — that was our first thought when we stepped in. The pastel blue finish is pleasing to the eye, and we do like the large paneled mirror wall where a few pictures were taken. The open-kitchen format shows off the pizza oven, and if you are sitting closer to the kitchen, you can get a waft of freshly baked pizza. Come in with a gang of 10 or on date night because the space works out great for all occasions.

The Food

The menu is largely inspired by Southern Italy, Naples to be precise. But exhibiting true pizzeria qualities, it's Neapolitan-style pizza that you get here. On the pre-opening night, the marketing manager, who hosted us, mentioned to us that the dough is slow-fermented — 72 hours to be precise. But before we get to the pizza, we have to talk about everything that comes before it. Specifically, the Guava Carpaccio and Chimichurri Prawn Panuozzo. The carpaccio is refreshing and morish with the sliced avocados adding some creamy texture and contrast to the meatier guava slices and the mustard-leaning dressing.

The panuozzo is basically a pizza sandwich, and chimichurri is one of our favourite condiments, so this worked out great for us. Oh, and there's guac in it too. We can see ourselves coming here for lunch breaks and grabbing a panuozzo because it does fill you but well.

Coming to pizza, they don't experiment much with the toppings, and we like that. The majority of the sauces we noticed are pomodoro, and they use San Marzano tomatoes. Of the pizzas we've tried in our visits, the Bacon & Honey Speziato and the OG Pepperoni stand out. The speziato wins for the crispy bacon and the hot honey chilli. Talking about the dough itself, it's got a good bite and chew. And the leopard spots are a thing of beauty. It's often a mark of a seriously good pizza.

The other dough they make is pasta. Their in-house pappardelle comes highly recommended, but we traded that for the Charcoal Spaghetti with Garlic Butter Lobster. Pasta-garlic butter sauce-lobster combo is the threesome action that you want to get in on. We mopped the plate clean with pizza crusts because wasting that garlic butter sauce is criminal.

Final Thoughts

We have already made plans for a major tea-spilling sesh here, and carbs are what we need. Specifically, the pizza kind of carbs that these guys deliver well.
