While Kurinjal Peak at Kudremukh is often the defacto destination everyone thinks of or ends up going to when they are looking for treks in Chikkamagaluru (or Chikmagalur), let us introduce you to a hidden gem that you might not have heard of. Kyatanamakki, a quaint hill station, is steeped in history and mythology as is with most hills in Karnataka. The hills are located near Horanadu and offer you a spot for some adrenaline rush in the form of off-roading and trekking. And since you are in Chikkamagalur, the views from the top are simply scenic.
You can drive down there and according to a few reliable trekking companies, there are 4WD jeep services at the base that take people to the top through rugged rocky trails. You can also trek up this very trail and make it a longer trek since from the endpoint of where the jeeps drop you off, there's another short climb of about 3-4 kilometres to reach the summit. And from there, it's great views as far as the eye can be seen. Depending on the season you are going, especially after the monsoons, it's different hues of greens on the rolling hill ranges of Chikmagalur. On a good day, the mighty Kudremukh range can be seen. If you are doing a full-day trek, we best recommend staying back for the sunset. It's simply beautiful.
