After Anne Hathaway In Gap, Shirt Dresses Are 2024's Latest Closet Must-haves!

Urth Label is one of my favourite brands for summer this year because of their minimal and well-structured clothing. This white shirt dress comes very close to the Gap one except for the long sleeves. This is the one to wear as is, without too many additions to the outfit to keep the soft and elegant vibe of it intact. We’d suggest keeping the bottom end buttons open to act as a slit and take accessories of primary colours for a colour-blocking effect. In case you’re looking for a more elegant look then try out some lacy heels and dainty jewellery instead. 

If you're looking for something exactly like the Gap one with regards to fit, structure, and fabric, this one from the Zara Women collection comes the closest. It has everything right except the colour which is burnt orange, which also gives more casual wear vibe instead of a red carpet one, but it's all in the styling. We recommend wearing a lace black body suit and taking this dress as a coat on top of that with just a few buttons closed and the belt tied on top for an elegant night out look. Wear some gold statement jewellery and black heels for the whole outfit to shine without looking over-the-top. 

Priced slightly higher than the rest, this one is a personal favourite because the structure, colour, and fit come quite close to the GAP one. The four pockets, tiered skirt bottom and golden hardware jewellery catch the eye and look classy without styling it much. Urbanic is known for the fitting of their clothes which snugs to the figure and enhances it, and I can vouch for that. The material is viscose, super breathable, moisture and completely opaque so you don't need to worry about any see-throughs because of the white colour. We'd suggest keeping it simple with the style- carry a hat and wear some tan mules or sandals to go for the Italian summer vibe. 

The dress of GAP was a white poplin gathered dress just like this one, but sleeveless and maxi instead. This dress is poplin, light pink (you can also get it in white), with long sleeves and a gathered waist which will pair perfectly with a skirt at the bottom. The idea is to tie the top couple of buttons in the shirt and leave the rest open for that hot girl summer look. You can also take on a sheer skirt which is another 24’ summer trend seen everywhere, but we’d just suggest keeping it simple for the shirt dress to shine. Take a cute handheld bag, tie your hair in a sleek bun and wear eccentric statement jewellery for that model-off-duty look.

This Zara midi has a structure that comes quite close to the one on Anne Hathaway but is made of cotton instead of poplin, arguably better suited for summer. You can pair it similarly with a strapless black corset top keeping almost all the buttons of the dress open and putting the sleeves off the shoulder, the scrunched waist will do the rest of the magic to make the look elegant and sexy. Take a pair of black stilettos, a metallic golden hang bag and some imitation jewellery to recreate the complete look. 

This one from Oh Rare is a mini dress, with a silhouette that enhances your body figure. The pleated waistline is a very trendy corset-like style with oversized sleeves that you probably have saved on your Pinterest board. The dress is made out of polyester and is completely opaque which is rare in white dresses. Style-wise it is just like the Anne Hathway one, with the gathered waist, the open-top buttons and the flowy collar, and does not need any additions to make it look like that, although if you want to go for a maxi vibe, we'd suggest trying a long pencil skirt under the dress. There's no wrong way with accessories here, you can go as minimal or as maximal as you want and it'll still enhance the look of this versatile piece. 

This abstract printed shirt dress is quite different in structure and style from the customised one Anne Hathaway wore, but serves as a great option for casual wear. Normally we’d just suggest wearing it as it is and calling it a day, but if you’re looking for something more edgy, then add a corset belt to it that will add a flair to the otherwise simple outfit. Pair it with white boots and gold statement jewellery to keep that casual yet chic vibe intact. 

Since Gingham is making a comeback, this one nails 2 trends with 1 dress. We love the late '60s and 70s style silhouette with the collar and puffy sleeves, but the ruched sides are what take the cake. The silhouette of the entire dress becomes trendy and cute with the ruching. It might not be for everyone as it is strikingly different from the Anne Hathway one, but if you're looking for something cute and Gen-Z this one deserves a try. Style it to look sexy with some thigh-high stockings and boots, and carry a small sling for that "kawaii " vibe. 

Another personal favourite that is quite a unique choice is this designer shirt dress. A little on the higher end compared to the other recommendations, this also has design elements that make it worth the value. It is pure linen with a pleated back making it more breathable and on the front, there are flowers resembling the corsage trend- all in a soft blue colour. This dress has a wide variety in sizes from XS to 6XL so that you can get the best fit for you. When it comes to styling it, avoid adding too many elements and let the dress shine by itself, but if you cannot resist adding some colour to the look, pair it with burgundy or orange footwear to contrast the cooler tone.

Blue Hour's mini shirt dress is a simple and minimal alternative to the Gap one. It has half sleeves and a short length, along with a straight fitting, making it breathable and is made of cotton. The silhouette and the material make it perfect to beat the heat this summer. We'd suggest avoiding over-styling this and just keeping it simple for a chic and put-together look. Pick out some dainty jewellery, any footwear and a complementing handbag for a versatile and minimal look.
