Bangalore and food go hand-in-hand. You cannot separate food and someone from Bangalore. They love their food and know exactly where to get it from. And while you might have your favourite haunts that you frequent, we decided to take it up a notch — and turned to Anurag Arora to take us through his Bangalorean food itinerary.

Anurag, a product designer and a cook, began his culinary journey with a home dinner popup in 2019, aiming to share his food beyond his immediate circle. He now hosts a popular dinner series at his home, Apartment. He has also held such popups in New York, Mexico and Italy. Additionally, he has been featured at renowned restaurants like Kanishka, Pidgin London, and published by Main in Vancouver.

So, it only felt right to get to know his favourite spots in Bangalore and here's what he has on his Bangalorean food itinerary.

Breakfast

Malgudi Mylari Mane, Koramangala

"One of my favourite spots for breakfast. Home-style Karnataka food that’s super comforting and deeply satisfying."

My top picks: Mutton chops and Mylari dose.

Junys Bakehouse

"Hands down, one of the best bakeries in the city. Everything is top-notch and made fresh!"

My top picks: Pain au chocolat and Congress bun.

LBB Tip: They open at 10AM

Laxmi Natraj, Chickpete

"Introduced to me by a friend. Perfect way to end an early-morning ingredient sourcing walk in Chickpete. Now we go often, especially since my wife buys flowers nearby. I always get the ghee idly. It’s a lot of ghee, you’ve been warned, but worth every bit."

My top picks: Ghee idly

Lunch

Beyond Burg

"My no-brainer lunch has got to be the Swiss cheese burger. Perfectly smashed, great-quality meat. Always delivers!"

23rd St

"Great NY-style pie. I love the crust and the wine selection. Get the Trifecta, and end with a pistachio soft serve."

Treat

"I’m a Punjabi, and this is where I go when I crave food from home. The palak paneer is consistently great. While you’re there, say hi to second-generation chefs Kartik and Pallavi."

Dinner

Comal

"Beautiful Mexican restaurant, small and cozy. Almost feels like walking into a modern cantina. Love the vibe and the food. Must orders: carne asada, birria ramen, and churros to finish."

Naru

"Needs no introduction… if you manage to get a seat. I love the shoyu ramen and the karaage."

Pro Tip: Naru's chef shares the best pan Asian food India has to offer

Bar Spirit Forward

"One of my favourite bars in the country, and thankfully close to home. Get the Souther Star or the Highball."
